The Importance of Web Statistics

Everytime a user visits your website, they are generating vital information. Below is an outline of some of the statistics you can collect from your users.

Where they came from

You will be able to see what website a user came to your site from. This could be in the form of a website linking to yours or it could be as a result of being found in a search engine. In the case of a search engine, you will be able to see what search engine and what words were searched for. It could also be a case of a user accessed your site directly, this would indicate the success of some form of advertising in place.

What they done on your site

This element refers to what pages the users viewed. This will clearly show what are your strongest pages. You can then maximise the effect of these pages and perhaps remove under performing pages.

When they left

Knowing what page a user leaves your website on can highlight potential issues. It may be a natural exit point or it may be a case of this particular page is not up to date or displaying correctly. You can also determine the length of time a user stays on your site. For example, if a user stays 5 seconds on your website, then its clear your website is not making a good first impression.

So how do I track users?

When you choose Site Crest as your website provider you will be given access to two statistics applications. These are both user friendly statistics applications which display the above information. You can also avail of an optional Google Analytics account creation. Google Analytics is a powerful statistics application with detailed reports and advanced features.
